Earlier today, Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls (AEIG), and HipCity Innovation Center, embarked on an advocacy visit to FCT Primary Health Care Board.
The visiting team led by the Project Officer, AEIG, Augustine Igweshi, was welcomed by the Executive Secretary of the FCT PHC Board, Dr.Mohammed, the Director of PHC, Dr. Ruqayya Wamakko, the AG. Sectional Head, Non-communicable Disease, Garba Mohammed, and the Head of Gender Health Unit, Abu Abdul Zainab.
The team intimated the Executive Secretary on the project “Promoting The Rights of Original Inhabitants of FCT” and our common objective which is "improving access to quality health care especially amongst the vulnerable groups - women, children and PWDs.
We raised some of the issues impeding the vulnerable groups from accessing health care in PHC facilities across the 6 area councils in FCT, like the unwelcoming attitude of some personel, midwives not properly equipped, inaccessibility of some PHCs, obsolete medical equipment, and many more factors. we also discussed our intervention in the aspect of capacity building training for ward heads and managers of PHCs.
In his response, the Executive Secretary expressed is gratitude to our team for the visit , and promised, all the issues raised will be attended to. The Director, PHC, Dr. Wamakko, also assure us the board has been working on ways to bridge the communication gap between patients with special needs and staff members of PHCs, to improve the quality of health care.
