The OI project team of Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls, in partnership with the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kwali chapter,
held a Town Hall Meeting in Kwali Area Council, with the theme "Addressing Sexual and Gender-based Violence through Youth Engagement"
The Town Hall Meeting is one way to engage youth in identifying risks and concerns about sexual and gender-based violence in their community and reflect on strategies to address them. Such strategy includes community-based protection strategies, which means working with community members to identify challenges and problems around safety and explore ways to address them.
The participants took turn to talk on their experiences and frustrations on the new pandemic (SGBV) while reinstating their commitment to their role as a youth in preventing such violence.
Also present were traditional rulers, representatives of Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, Nigeria Police Force, Naptip Nigeria, Speaker of Kwali Area Council Legislative House and the Chairman of Kwali Area Council.
