Earlier today, Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls in partnership with Dean Initiative
held a Town Hall Meeting at Gwagwalada Area Council with the theme "to onboard local parliament members into Open Government Partnership at the local level"
Mr Semiye Michael, the Executive Director of Dean Initiative in his brief introduction noted that Nigeria as a country joined the OGP in 2016 and since then effort is being made through the collaboration of civil society to institute it at the local administration level. He also noted that the essence is to further bring governance closer to the people and promote accountability in government.
In the same vein, the Executive Director of Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls, Mrs Abiodun Essiet noted that the meeting will serve as an impetus to the original inhabitants of FCT, who have been marginalized for years to demand of their various representatives the dividends of government.
The interactive Town Hall Meeting had in attendance councillors representing various wards in the 6 area councils Legislative Assemblies and their presiding officers. Also members of the Civil Society, different original inhabitants groups, and representatives of the FCTA and Area Administration were present.
