In furtherance to our effort at addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls (AEIG) organized an interface meeting between community members and traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to streamline an action plan on tackling the menace in Kurudu community, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the FCT. This is part of the scorecard on community responses to SGBV we are currently developing.
Traditional rulers (service providers) and community members who were hitherto divided into groups (women, Men and Youth) while conducting the scorecard, were brought together to present issues raised and how they scored the services they receive from them (traditional rulers). This culminated into a joint action plan which will be implemented during and beyond the project cycle.
Stakeholders present during the interface meeting include: representatives of the National Human Rights Commission, Abuja, Naptip Nigeria Nigerian Police Force Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Social welfare unit AMAC; and members of the Civil Society, who all pledged to support Kurudu traditional rulers with resources, intensive sensitisation, prompt action and intervention needed to tackle the menace.
