AEIG PARTNERS WITH GIRLS PRIDE FOUNDATION ON WOMEN INVOLVEMENT IN TACKLING SGBV IN KUJE AREA COUNCIL

Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls, in partnership with Girls Pride Foundation, held a Town Hall Meeting in Kuje Area Council, with the theme " Addressing Sexual and Gender-based Violence Through Women and Key Stakeholders Involvement"

In her opening remarks, the Executive Director, Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls, Mrs. Abiodun Essiet urged women to speak up. "Women and girls all over the world suffer the most from sexual and gender-based violence, yet, they also have a major role to play to put an end to the pandemic. Either as mothers, member of the society or in the position of authority, women have a natural instinct to spot abnormalities; don't allow your voice to be silenced! Speak out against every form of SGBV."

The Director General of NAPTIP, ably represented by Mrs. Justina Akinlade commended AEIG for her tireless effort in pioneering Community dialogues and intervention programs geared towards the Protection and prevention of Sexual and Gender based violence in communities. The Agency also specially commends the traditional rulers, who are also a major stakeholder, for their swift response and referrals of sexual and gender based violence in Kuje Area Council while urging them to desist from "settling" rape cases in their palaces as it is a crime against the state.

Traditional rulers, Indigenous women and youth across Kuje area council and the council administration were also present.
