Earlier today, Tuesday, 17th May, 2022, the project team, Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls (AEIG), embarked on an advocacy visit to the principal,
G.S.S Pyakasa, Abdullahi Amina H, to solicit her support and that of the members of staff, for our upcoming sensitization seminar on sexual and gender-based violence in the school.
One of the approaches we are implementing in the FCT OI project, to curb sexual and gender-based violence, in terms of preventive measures and reducing the culture of silence amongst the original inhabitants of FCT and people with disability, is organization sensitization in community schools with high concentration of original inhabitants, thereby raising actors and anti-GBV ambassadors. The school is one of the schools in the six area councils in FCT we will be sensitizing, as approved by the FCT Secondary Education Board.
The team had audience with the principal, vice principal and the guardian and counselor, who all commended the team, and also lauded the project as a timely intervention as most of the students are still at their formative stage and they should be exposed to messages like this.
The principal in her short remark, alluded they have challenges infrastructural wise. Notwithstanding, they will provide the necessary environment for the sensitization seminar to be as impactful as possible, to the students.
The FCT OI project is funded by Macarthur Foundation through Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED).
