AEIG COLLABORATES WITH ANNEOZENG OGOZI AIDS FOUNDATION FOR WIDOWS DAY

Today, Anneozeng Ogozi Aids Foundation (AOAF), in collaboration with Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls (AEIG), held a one day sensitisation session tagged

"Sustainable Solutions for Windows Financial Independence" in commemoration of International Widows' day 2022.

The sensitization which held at Jiwa, an indigenous community in Abuja Municipal Area Council  supported 16 widows in petty trading with financial support of N10,000 each, alongside a sensitisation on Financial Literacy (savings, book keeping, sourcing for low rate loans) to scale up their business and improve their economic growth.

It also featured strategic conversations on Womens Rights and Sexual and Gender Based Violence (with a focus on harmful widowhood practices) awareness and reporting (finding help), to help the widows build Agency to live free of violence, abuse and discrimination of any form.

The program officer of AOA Foundation, Linda Raji, in her brief remark encouraged the widows present to protect their children, especially their girl child against situations that will make them susceptible to abuse or violence. In the same vein, Miss. Josephine Emeghoghena, on behalf of the Executive Director of AEIG, encouraged the widows to speak out and seek redress when their rights are being violated because of the demise of their husbands.

Hon. Usman Jiwa, the Galadima of Jiwa Chiefdom, lauded the initiative, and encouraged us not to relent. He said interventions like this would go a long way to ease the plight of the indigent in our society.
