SENSITIZATION SEMINAR ON SGBV IN G.S.S GAWU AND COMMISSIONING OF ANTI-SGBV AMBASSADORS

It was another impactful day as the OI project team of Abiodun Essiet Initiative for Girls, yesterday, had a sensitization seminar on Sexual and Gender-based Violence, in Government Secondary school, Gawu, Abaji Area Council. 

The students and teachers were educated on the depth and severity of school related gender-based violence and the community.

The Executive Director of AEIG, Abiodun Essiet, represented by the project officer , Miss Josephine, spoke on the various forms of abuse a child can be exposed to, which include; Physical abuse, Sexual abuse, Emotional/ Psychological abuse, Neglect/Negligent treatment and Exploitation. All these forms of abuse have a long-term effect on the child, therefore the need to protect every child. Conclusively, she emphasized protecting children from all forms of abuse by ensuring open dialogues, creating safe spaces, and ensuring that the schools have safeguarding policy.

Five students were selected and endorsed as anti-GBV ambassadors, who will further sensitize their peers in school and also the community.
